The National Health Service and shopping centres are starting work on setting up vaccination points

In order to improve the availability of vaccination for the population, today the National Health Service, representatives of ‘Veselības centrs 4’, ‘Veselības centru apvienība’ and the largest Latvian shopping centres have agreed to start work on a plan for the placement of vaccination points. Work has started immediately to open vaccination points in shopping centres in both Riga and regional cities in the coming weeks, making vaccination even more accessible to every inhabitant of Latvia.

"Vaccination sites change sequentially with the process itself. We started vaccination among the population with family doctors who are closer to seniors, continued with large-scale centres in the largest cities of Latvia, but now we go even closer to the population, providing off-site vaccination in Latvian regions, and we have started planning vaccination points in Latvia's largest shopping centres,” says Eva Juhņēviča, Vaccination Project Manager of the National Health Service.

It has already been reported that shopping centres throughout Latvia have expressed their readiness to place vaccination points on their premises. Today, the first meeting took place between the representatives of the shopping centres and the organisers of the vaccination process, where the two sides agreed on the next steps to be taken to make the vaccines available to the wider public as soon as possible. The preliminary goal is to open vaccination points in shopping centres already in June, placing them in various places in the shopping centres - both in larger corridors and common areas, as well as in clinical laboratories and specially designed tents. It is planned to vaccinate several hundred people every day at each vaccination point of the shopping centre, thus significantly improving the pace of vaccination in Latvia.

"We are pleased with how quickly we have managed to start working on the placement of vaccination points in shopping centres. We are working to realise the idea of organising vaccinations in shopping centres and the long-awaited opening of stores very soon. This way, the public will have the opportunity to make postponed purchases and obtain a vaccine at the same time, all in an epidemiologically safe environment,” emphasises Mārtiņš Vanags, Chairman of the Board of the Alliance of Real Estate Developers.
